Is there any interest in a community for tech related news, thoughts, discussions, projects, etc.?
Hi there. I maintain Jurism, a reference manager for legal and multilingual materials, and I help out on the tech side of Indigo Book, the freely available restatement of Bluebook rules edited by Jennifer Romig and Chris Sprigman. If there is a tech-ish discussion here, I’ll certainly be inclined to hang out.
For clarity, are we talking “tech and law” or “general developments in tech” style?
This is my question too. I can imagine a “legal tech” section with permissive submission guidelines could work. My thought is that nearly anything a legal professional wants to talk about regarding tech is, de facto, a legal tech issue.
I’m open to either, but as Barry points out in another comment, there are other places for general tech discussion. It makes sense for it to be limited to the intersection between law and technology, whether that’s technology law, legal tech, etc.
I’m here for both, and I agree there’s a distinction to be made between technology law and legal tech that can assist with the practice of law. As a solo practitioner, I’m constantly on the lookout for the right tool for whatever job I’m trying to do, but I also advise tech startups and want to be aware of developments in that regard as well.
I’d be interested in discussions around legal technology, and technology law, and things in that intersection between law and tech. For general tech, that kind of discussion is already pretty lively on other Lemmy instances, and I’m not sure there’s enough unmet demand for that kind of space.
Let’s start with legal tech (https://links.esq.social/c/legaltech) since tech law can fit under the general purpose community while we’re still getting off the ground.
